The Scruffy One

Posted by
Peter (Te Aroha, New Zealand) on 21 October 2019 in Animal & Insect.

I named this bird 'Scruff' for obvious reasons; a local kingfisher who visits my bare silk tree quite often. He (or she) has a very sharp eye and I have seen it swoop down suddenly and pull an earthworm from the ground or snatch a skink from the grass with that fearsome beak and fly back up to it's branch to swallow the meal.

Canon EOS 6D 1/1250 second F/5.6 ISO 400 277 mm

My goal is to present images of objects and places as naturally as possible with minimal post processing. I hope the natural qualities will come through for the viewer with a little contemplation.

A beautiful moment to be scruffy . . and, yes, they are fast-movers for sure.

He is a gorgeous bird. I have only seen a kingfisher once and it was just a glimpse. I love the colors. You are so lucky that he frequents your yard!
