The old Waipa Hotel

Posted by
Peter (Warkworth, New Zealand) on 7 July 2019 in Cityscape & Urban.

The Waipa Hotel in Ngaruawahia is sitting there in disuse and looks like it's waiting for someone to come along and pull it down. A prime spot on the main highway south until the new Expressway went through and bypassed the township. There is no color about it, apart from the plants growing out of the footpath, so I thought the best treatment would be monochrome.

My goal is to present images of objects and places as naturally as possible with minimal post processing. I think the natural qualities will come through for the viewer with a little contemplation. Unfortunately there is little time for such things these days.

Always sad to see a building in decline . . the busy times have sure gone for this one.

Wonderful old house. I hope, it will get a revival.

Sepia colour is a good choice here.

I think this building should be bought and renovated. It would be a crime to see this fall apart. Excellent look at this impressive building. 5*

@Shaun: A decade ago it was a fine building and well maintained but I gather the owner became very ill, tried to sell but couldn't get a happy price so it appears to decay. Many small town pubs are suffering the same fate in these times.

I am sure that there is a lot of history connected to this place. I hope that someone decides to renovate it. It is sad when buildings like this are torn down and it happens all the time it seems.

@Elaine Hancock: Thanks for your comments Elaine, sadly I think it is destined for a sad end. It is a good spot for a fast food outlet. :-)
